Focused child care networks are cohorts of 12-15 providers grouped together by shared attributes and demographics that meet with the shared goal of increasing the quality of their programs. As a part of a network, participants will:

Learn about upcoming professional development opportunities

Discuss the application of new licensing requirements

Work on SPARK portfolios as a group

Solve problems and issues with their practice

Recieve real-time support with emergent problems or changes in the child care world
Navigate the complicated childcare system in Oregon
Understand the requirements for “quality care” and possibly enroll in a SPARK program to improve their rating

Benefits of a Monthly Meeting

Each network meets once per month with their peers to talk through difficulties they’re having, share experiences and solutions, and problem solve as a team. These monthly meetings are:

Efficient: Monthly meetings are no longer than two hours to respect participants’ busy schedules.

Accommodating: Whenever possible, meetings are held after 6pm to accommodate provider schedules.

Relaxed: We’re not all business! Meetings include time for connection and socializing so that providers can connect with peers.

Transparent: Every meeting has an agenda that is sent to participants in advance so you always know what’s going to be talked about.

Connected: Meetings Include relevant community partners depending on topic so that you can learn from and connect with local sources of support.

Benefits of Network Trainings

As a part of a FCN, you also get opportunities for unique trainings. These trainings are held intermittently and on different subjects, but all have similarities including:

No longer than three hours
Quality professional development training
Clear and specific objectives
Approved by OCCD prior to delivery
Baker County
Satisfy at least one of the Oregon Registry Online Core Knowledge Categories and Qualify as a Set 2 or 3
Include a training evaluation for participants to complete
Held after 6pm to accommodate provider schedules
Include a 10 – 15 minute break

Who exactly leads the focused child care networks?
Focused Child Care Networks are lead by our staff who are experts in the focus area of the particular network that they lead. For example, our Infant/Toddler Specialist runs the Infant/Toddler network. These staff are there as experts in their field who are able to find and deliver the exact trainings needed for the providers in the network!
Can I start my own focused child care network?
We love it when providers take on active leadership roles within their communities and at a state and national level! And we’d love to help you to serve providers in your particular niche. FCCNs have funding available to pay for the professional development opportunities as well as some incentives for the participants. Please contact us to learn more about how to start a network in your area!
