Healthy Families Eastern Oregon
Healthy Families Eastern Oregon, an affiliate of Healthy Families America (HFA), is a leading home visiting program in the United States that supports families and follows an evidence-based relationship model. It upholds the four pillars of a healthy relationship: safety, comfort, predictability, and joy. Parents who experience these aspects genuinely in a relationship can then create the same nurturing environment for their children.
This free, voluntary program is available to all families living in Malheur County who are expecting or have had a baby in the past three months, continuing services up to the child’s fifth year, regardless of income. Families are paired with a Family Support Specialist who provides support through the joys and challenges of parenting. Understanding that each family is unique, we are dedicated to accommodating your family’s preferences.
Our goal is to link you with the necessary resources and services. We organize events and foster connections with other new parents to build a supportive community.
A baby’s brain will double in size in the first year and reach 80% of its adult size by age three. Healthy Families Eastern Oregon offers two evidence-based curricula, featuring activities that are developmentally appropriate to encourage your child’s cognitive, social, and physical development.

CaCoon
The CaCoon program serves families with children from birth to age 20 who have (or are at risk of
having) a chronic health condition or disability. Public health nurses who are specially trained to care for
children and youth with special health needs offer CaCoon care coordination services. Since family
members have a central role in the care of their child, all services are planned around the desires and
concerns of the family. Eligibility is not tied to family income or insurance status. There is no charge to
families. A CaCoon nurse works with your family and your child’s health care providers to assist in areas
such as:
-
- Help you find information about your child’s condition
- Screen your child for any concerns regarding development, nutrition, hearing, vision, or other
health issues - Partner with you to advocate for your child and family
- Help your family locate financial assistance to help pay for your child’s care
- Refer you to parent or family support organizations
- Refer you to local resources for early intervention, occupational and/or speech therapy, and
preschool
